A personal review of Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease Workout, a five-disc DVD set choreographed by Robin Antin of The Pussycat Dolls. The reviewer describes each disc's content, ranging from basic dance routines and stripper moves to a formal workout, advanced choreography, lap dance instruction, and a hip hop routine.
The review notes high production quality, customizable music options, and pre-programmed routines, but questions whether the $80 price is justified given the short routine lengths. The reviewer concludes the set works better as a supplementary, fun addition to fitness rather than a primary cardio routine.
Carmen Electra Aerobic Striptease Workout
Sluttin' It Up for the sake of Fitness
How much fun are you willing to have in order to stay in shape? If the answer is as much as possible, you will love the new fitness craze-STRIPPING! NO you really don’t take off your clothes, (unless you want to). I’ve tried out 4 different Exotic Dancing workouts, and let me tell you, my quads are killing me!

She’s a sexy dancer and has a great body and stays in shape by dancing
OK, why Carmen Electra? She’s a sexy dancer and has a great body and stays in shape by dancing. Actually, this workout is choreographed by Robin Antin, the same chick who choreographs The Pussycat Dolls in LA (which Carmen happens to headline.) If you’ve seen the girls that do that show, you’d be convinced you should learn how to do this, too. The box set comes with 5 discs:
Disc 1
Disc 1 has 2 short dance choreographies. I really like this one. There are lots of dips, cat crawls and ass slapping. In the second routine, you actually learn how to get down to the floor (gracefully) and do some classic stripper moves, like the leg twirl and the um, leg spread. This one is fun. My personal advice: Learn the finger in your mouth move.
Disc 2
Disc 2 is an actual workout. I must say I didn’t bother with much. I can barely make it through it. It’s broken down into 2 sections: standing floor work and laying down floor work. A trainer is there with her explaining all the moves and I’m sure they’re very effective. I just haven’t been in the mood for calisthenics.
Disc 3
Disc 3 is the “advanced” dance routines. There are two choreographies here, also. You get to play the sexy librarian and the second act is playing dress up in a man’s shirt, tie and hat. This one had more steps and moves to learn. I got it down after a couple tries. It’s not very aerobic, but fun nonetheless. I’m not sure if anyone will ever get to enjoy my version of “The Librarian” which is too bad. I’m pretty damn good at it.
Disc 4
Disc 4 teaches you how to lap dance. Its not a real strip club lap dance, mind you, but a choreographed one. It’s harder than it looks, but very short. Your stomach muscles better be ready before you attempt the harder parts of this. The only part that confused me was whether or not you’re supposed to pretend someone is sitting in the chair or not.
Disc 5
is a hip hop routine and it hurts me. It’s cute, but its not really exotic dancing. It definitely made me out of breath.
This set is very well put together and has a lot of cool features. You can skip the instructional part and go straight to the workout. You can choose your own type of music to go with each one (hip hop, techno, or rap). It has different pre-programmed routines so you don’t have to keep pressing next or repeat. Each disc also has an interview with Robin Antin (the choreographer) and other participants. Very high production quality.
But is it worth the $80 dollars? (You can get it now for $35, but yes, I paid $80 when it first came out) Maybe. If you use it all the time, every day. It’s not what I thought it was going to be. I was expecting more slut, less dance. But dance is good. IF you are already a dancer (which I consider myself to be) or if you are an aspiring stripper, I don’t think you’re going to find this very helpful. The routines are also pretty short, not even enough to fill one song unless you string them all together.
Although it will not be used as my primary source of cardio, I will turn to Carmen when I need a little more spunk.
