Clinique Almost lipstick in Black Honey
Cult Classic Y2K Holy Grail Lip Gloss is Still Alive and Well I was walking through Nordstrom’s after a particularly disappointing Sephora trip, where nothing seemed to suit my coloring, when I passed by the Clinique counter. On the palette of lip gloss testers a dark, almost inky tube caught my eye, standing out among the usual pinks and nudes. It was Black Honey! The cult-favorite shade, now in a gloss formula I hadn’t seen before.
I had always loved the Black Honey Almost Lipstick for its sheer, universally flattering berry tint, but longed for more pigment and shine than the balm-like original could offer. This is it, people. This more than delivers. The wand carries a lot of product, which is great for evening when you want a full, glossy, plum-stained lip in a single swipe, and the gloss is lovely and quite dark, with a non-sticky finish that stays comfortable for hours.
For daytime use, when a full-on dark lip might feel like too much, you may want to dab it on a few spots and blend with your finger or the other end of the sponge tip. (You could just blot off the excess but that’s wasteful, especially at this price point.) It sounds like a lot of work for a gloss, but the wonderful color, a rich blackberry that adjusts to your natural lip tone, makes up for that. It layers beautifully over a lip liner or the original Almost Lipstick too. I am so enamored with this lip gloss, it could come in a pot for all I care.
We still love it after all these years… It has survived countless trend cycles, product purges, and new launches, and it remains a permanent fixture in our makeup bags because the color is simply that good.
