Bare feet resting on the edge of a sunlit swimming pool
Sunlit feet rest beside a sparkling pool on a warm summer day.

Summer is here and your feet are on display. I’m surprised how many do not know how to do a proper pedicure! I know a pedicure sounds like (and is) a lot of work. You only need to do it once a month. But if you spend 2 minutes a day, every day, on your feet, pedicures would not seem so daunting.

Fix your feet!

When in doubt, treat yourself to a professional treatment. Support your favorite nail tech!

1. Remove polish from toes. 2. Apply cuticle remover and toenail lightener if nails are yellow. Wait 5 minutes.
3. Using and orange stick or towel, push back cuticles.
4. Clean under nails with orange stick or metal file.
5. If necessary, cut nails straight across and file to smooth.
6. Fill the tub or dishpan with very warm water. Add some bubble soap or a foot soak.
7. Soak feet for as long as you like, but at least 10 minutes.
8. Keep a towel under the dishpan and one on your lap. Pick a foot and dry it a little. Pick a scrub to use. When I do a full blown pedicure, I use about 3 scrubs in a row. If you’re pressed for time, one will do.
9. Rinse the foot in water and repeat with the other foot.
10. After all the scrubbing is done, it’s time to file.

Filing

Filing can be the most time consuming part of a pedicure, but it is by far the most important. Keep one foot in the water while you work on the other one. Use the roughest side of the file. Pay the most attention to your heels, the balls, the big toe and the little toe, if needed. Keep a towel underneath to catch the dead skin falling away. This step is what will reveal the pink skin underneath. If your feet are bad, it will take more than one pedicure to remove all of the dry skin. Do what you can and move onto the next foot.

11.  Dry your feet and apply heavy duty cream. I usually start with one made for tough feet and calluses. Rub in well. Apply another coat of the same cream or a different one.
12.  For a special treat, spray on cooling foot spray.
13.  Put on your socks and relax.I usually wait a day before I add polish. If you want to paint the same day, swipe nail polish remover over each toenail to remove any cream residue.

You should see a big difference in your feet within 2 treatments.

IF YOU DO NOTHING ELSE FOR YOUR FEET, DO THESE 2 THINGS…..

FILE AND MOISTURISE

Your feet are getting a “soak” every time you shower, so you should take advantage. Immediately after a shower, sit down and file your feet. Spend about a minute on each foot. Top off with a heavy cream and throw on some socks. It really doesn’t take that long and within a week your feet will look and feel 100% better.

If you can’t spend 2 minutes on your feet, then you don’t deserve nice feet and should stop bitching about them!
